2 month checkup

We took Kaylee for her 2 month appointment today. She is now 10 lb. 11 oz. and 23", so gaining weight appropriately. The pediatrician said not to worry about her seemingly gaining in spurts - that is normal. She's in the 66% for height and 44% for weight...long and lean...she still fits in newborn clothes around her body, but is getting too tall for them! So she's still wearing mostly newborn size, but has also progressed to some 0-3 month and a few 3 month size outfits (the footed pj's style, especially - when she stretches out, she's waaay too long for newborn size now!). Of course, she seems to be swimming in most of the sizes that are long enough for her, what with her skinny arms, legs and torso.

She was an angel again at this visit, smiling and cooing some for the doctor and nurse...until the nurse pulled out the vaccination needles! She did not like getting stuck (5 times! ;-( ), and we were both in tears by the time it was over, but she's doing well now. We got home and she was smiling and talking again after lunch, though she slept extra today (doc said that is normal and often happens after vaccinations). They also checked her left ear again (the quick check machine) and it still is not passing, so they referred us to an ear, nose and throat doc. We'll keep you posted.

On Monday we went to my parents' house for lunch and Kaylee had her first dip (just her feet!) in the pool. Was still a bit chilly for her in the water. She does love bathtime, though, so we figure she'll love pool time, too!

I also finally hung her name above her crib this weekend! Looks pretty cute!

Kaylee's 1st Celebrity Encounter!

Hi all - Kaylee and I met my cousin's wife Margaret at North Point (Alpharetta, GA) for shopping (Babies R Us) and lunch today (Ruby Tuesday). A little bit after we sat down to eat, Margaret said "I think that's Jeff Foxworthy a couple tables behind us, but I don't want to stare." I had to go to the bathroom anyway and their table was on the way - yep, it was Jeff Foxworthy, and on the way back I saw he was dining with John Smoltz! I told this to Margaret, who did not know who Smoltz was. I filled her in (for those like Margaret, he's an Atlanta Braves pitcher who recently achieved his 3,000th strikeout). Kaylee needed changing later, so she got to see them as we walked past...maybe if she hadn't been fussing about her diaper, we would have asked for a photo with them, but they were gone when we returned to our table...oh, well. Maybe next time...

Hands & chit-chat

Kaylee's found out she can use her hands to hit and grab things (though the grabbing may still be accidental at this point...). She is also talking up a storm lately! Especially the past few days. I love her cute little coos!

No news, just cute pics

Nothing much to post, just had a cute photo to share. Adorable smile, and she's wearing little tennis shoes!! They are still a bit big, but I suppose it's okay as she's not yet walking.

Yesterday she had a play date with her friend Erin; they get along so well...Erin was sticking her fingers in Kaylee's mouth and Kaylee didn't even complain. :)

Mother's Day

Here we are on Mother's Day - what a big smile for the camera!!

All in all, it was a good day! I got breakfast in bed and we went to my grandparents' house for lunch. Kaylee got to meet some family who hadn't met her yet, including two cousins' sons - Ethan (3 years old) and Ryker (~20 months). Ryker didn't pay too much attention to her, but Ethan seemed pretty interested. He said, "I love you, Kaylee" and gave her a big kiss - so cute!! He's going to be a big brother in October, and I think he'll be great at it!

We took a photo of the four generations of mothers/daughters - Memaw (Naomi), my Mom (Mary Jane/Gramma), me & Kaylee. Mom is Memaw's only daughter, and I'm Mom's only daughter, so Kaylee is the 4th generation daughter.
A nice Mother's Day photo of the four of us.
And of course Grampa (my Dad) had to have his turn with Kaylee.

At our Mom & Me group on Friday, all the moms brought in stuff for an early Mother's Day pot luck brunch, which was fun. The nurse that facilitates the group brought in a scale for us to weigh our babies, and I found out Kaylee is now 8 lb. 12.3 oz. - apparently she should be closer to 9-9.5 lbs. by now, but I swear we aren't starving her! Could be that she's gaining slower now, but will hit a growth spurt soon - she goes back to the pediatrician at the end of the month, so we'll see how things are looking then, weight-wise. I tried to measure her length at home a week or so ago, and I think she was about 22", though it's hard to measure a squirmy baby.

No updates on the hearing issue yet - we didn't get our copy of the paperwork until Thursday, and I haven't had a chance to call the pediatrician yet. Will update when we know something.

Don't think there's really anything else to report at this point. Kaylee will be 7 weeks tomorrow! Time is still flying by...

Kaylee's Hearing Check

For those that don't know - Kaylee's left ear did not pass the quick hearing screen at the hospital. They checked on two days while we were there. They said since she was a c-section baby, it was likely that she just had retained fluid in her left ear (her right passed each time they checked). We went back to Northside's Audiology department when she was about 2.5 weeks old and again the left ear did not pass, but was a bit more responsive than at the hospital.

We went back to the audiologist today to get Kaylee's left ear checked again. She still isn't showing signs of full hearing in her left ear (right one is still fine), but came very close to passing - this is compared to that appointment 2.5 weeks ago when she didn't show much hearing ability in that ear at all. Since her left ear didn't pass the quick test again today, they hooked her up to a machine to monitor brain activity when they played different sound levels into her ear. She showed signs of hearing at 30 decibels, but not 25, which is the minimum "passing" mark (the lower the decibel level, the better the hearing). The audiologist said these results are consistent with babies who have fluid retained in their ear, many of which are other c-section babies, who weren't squeezed through the birth canal and thus typically retain more fluid than non-section babes. Having said that, she did caution that it could be hearing loss, but based on the results today it would not be complete deafness on that side, but just a loss. The audiologist is sending the results to our pediatrician, who we'll talk to late next week (not sure when; sometime after she has a chance to review today's results). If it is just still fluid in there, it should eventually clear up on its own, or the doc might insert a tube to drain it. If it isn't fluid, they will likely refer us to a hearing specialist. It sounds like worst case, she has partial hearing loss, but it appears to be minimal. We had been pretty sure she could hear, as when we shush her or talk to her more in that ear, she responds.

Here are some photos of our bionic baby. :) She was so good at the appointment today - pretty much just slept in Jamie's arms the whole time, and only cried out a little when they pulled the electrode off her forehead.

Thanks to all for your continued prayers!!
