Kaylee's new second cousin

Brandon and Margaret's son Nathan Cornelius was born at 8pm tonight! Congrats to the new parents!! Kaylee is excited to have a new second cousin!

I think Jamie and I will try to visit the new family tomorrow night if they are up for it - I'll post some photos afterwards, I'm sure. Kaylee won't get to meet Nathan until later in the week.

4 month checkup

(Kaylee and Jamie at the pediatrician's office)

Kaylee had her 4 month checkup at the pediatrician today. She's now 15lb 11oz and 25.5 in. "She's perfect," according to the doctor (we love her doctor :-) ). She got 5 vaccinations this time - one oral and 4 shots. She did really well, though! She had her pacifier in as the nurse started the shots, and she did cry out a little once she got to the second one, but I picked her up as soon as the nurse was done and Kaylee stopped crying. It was about time to eat (we had brought a bottle), so Jamie fed her in the waiting room and she was happy and smiling on the way home. She did take a little power nap in the car, but was wide awake, smiling and happy for an hour or so at home until naptime.

As for solid foods, we're going to hold off until Kaylee is at least 6 months old. Since Jamie was allergic to everything in the world as a child (so family history of allergies) and starting solids too early can increase the risk of food allergies, the doc recommended holding off on solids until at least 6 months. Since she's doing so well with just formula for now, there's really no reason to rush things anyway, even without the potential allergy issue.

In other news - my cousin Brandon and his wife Margaret are at the hospital and will likely have their baby boy sometime this evening! I'll post his birth information (and name!!) once we find out.

4 month old

Kaylee is 4 months old today! (4 months young?) Where has the time gone?? She goes back to the pediatrician for her checkup and more shots on Monday...check back for more photos and an update on that Monday or Tuesday.

Her honorary great-grandmother (Lorraine Chappey) sent her an American Girls baby doll (and clothes and crib!) that arrived yesterday and she "played" with it today.

Funny Face

Early last week, I accidentally got some water in/on Kaylee's mouth when I was getting her head wet for washing - she stopped splashing and stuck out her bottom lip and tongue to sort of catch it. I resoaked the washcloth and ran a slow trickle over her mouth and she did it again. I showed Jamie a night or two later and we've been doing it - mostly for our amusement, but she seems to like it - every night since. Cracks us up how she stops splashing, then goes right back to it when the water stops running on her mouth. And yes, we use clean water and do this before we wash her with soap.

Kaylee's New Noise

Kaylee has a new noise - a high-pitch coo, I suppose you could call it. Sort of a mini-squeal, but it's more like part of her talking, as it's not any louder than the rest of her "words." She tends to do it more when she's alone and talking to herself, but sometimes when she's talking to us.

Not sure what else to write - I know I haven't been posting much other than photos lately...hmm. Well, here's a little song I sing to Kaylee, to the tune of Jesus Loves Me:

Mommy loves me this I know,
For she always tells me so.
"Little one," she says to me,
"I love you 'cause you're so sweet."

Yes, Mommy loves me.
Yes, Mommy loves me.
Yes, Mommy loves me,
And she always tells me so.

(sometimes the "'cause you're so sweet" gets changed to "please go to sleep" or "it's time to eat")

I haven't copyrighted it :-) so feel free to use it, keeping or changing the word to fit your need...Daddy, Grampa, Gramma, Grandma, Poppy, Nana, Uncle, Auntie, etc...

Little Sucker

Kaylee enjoys sucking on her fists and has lately taken to gnawing on her left thumb - not really sucking it, just gumming it and producing lots of drool...

Ear Update

Just got back from Kaylee's ENT appointment. There is still fluid behind her left eardrum, but the doctor said it looks better than last time. He recommended we just give it more time to clear out on its own rather than putting in a tube at this early stage. So we go back again in a month for him to check on the progress. Thanks for keeping her ear in your prayers!

Photo is from our ride home. We left just at her naptime and I was trying to keep her awake until we got home (it worked, and she's now napping in her room).

We're in Trouble!

Our little roly poly has been rolling over from front to back for about 3 weeks, but it looks like she'll soon be rolling back to front, as well! She just hasn't quite figured out how to get her arm out of the way yet... Guess we'll be babyproofing sooner than expected!! She actually spun herself in a complete circle on a quilt today with her head as the pivot point...was funny to watch!

101 Days of Kaylee

July 4th marked Kaylee's 101st day with us! Here are a few photos from Friday; she's wearing her special red, white and blue outfit her Poppy and Nana (Dan & Sally, Jamie's dad and stepmom) gave her. In the photos she's with me, Jamie and Uncle Jeff (my brother).

Short note & pics

Kaylee and I went to a neighbor's house for a playgroup this morning with some other moms and kids. She seemed to take everything in, looking around at all the activity and smiling some. I think she was pretty tired the whole time, but wanted to stay awake and not miss any of the excitement.

We're having a bunch of family over tomorrow for a 4th of July cookout, and Kaylee has a special red, white and blue outfit for the occasion, so I'm sure we'll be taking lots of photos and will post again soon!

These pics are from yesterday:
