New funny face

This is not the new funny face, just a cute "normal" face photo. :-)

Just in the past day or two Kaylee has started sucking in her bottom lip. Just for a second or two at a time, usually - so not long enough for me to get the camera. To get these, I basically sat in front of her with the camera at the ready and just took photos as soon as she started doing it, and I managed to get a couple good/funny shots. Was not the easiest task, as she was in her jump & go at the time, but luckily she stopped a few times while she sucked in her lip. I have no idea why she started doing this - I guess just exploring what she can do with her mouth - but it is sooo cute!!!!

Jumping Bean

We got a "jump & go" (jumper that hangs from a door frame) for Kaylee a week ago, and the first couple days we had it hanging in a higher space where she couldn't quite reach the floor. We put a pillow under her, but she pretty much just sat in it and played with the attached toy, then got tired of it within a few minutes. I moved it to a regular doorway where she can touch the floor with her feet and now she goes crazy! She'd probably sit in that thing all day if we'd let her! I guess it's tiring to jump around so much as she has to take little breaks every once in a while. It's funny - Jamie can hear her pounding on the floor while he's down in his basement office! So he knows when she's in there!!

New title image (duh!)

As I'm sure you noticed, I made a new image for the blog title area. Kaylee went down for a nap just before 9 this morning, and I started it about then. I heard her making noises then talking on the monitor a bit later and thought "it's not time to wake up yet, go back to sleep." Then I noticed that it had been an hour and a half since she went to bed - her normal nap length. Wow. Time flies when you're playing around on the computer! She's usually up about 2 hours then takes another nap. Oh, and last night she slept from about 8 until nearly 7am without waking! Or at least without waking me - she might have stirred, but I guess just went back to sleep all right on her own. Of course I woke up at 5, but was able to get back to sleep right away, then woke up at 6:30 and couldn't (that's about when I've been getting up lately). She hasn't ever slept that long on her own before, so I snuck in and looked in at her - she was still (or again?) on her side, cuddled up with one of her little animal blankets held tight. And breathing. :-)

Tomorrow Kaylee and I will be at a friend's house watching her two girls (one will be 2 in Sept and the other 4 in Oct) from about 8:30-5. Busy, busy!

Kaylee's been playing in the other room on her own for a while (she enjoys time alone sometimes - I don't leave her crying), but I should go check on her...more later!

Pool time

We went to the pool last night - it wasn't sunny out, though the water was fine, and no one else was there. We took Kaylee to my parents' pool when she was 2 months old, and I went once with a cousin's wife and Kaylee to our pool shortly after that, but this was the first time all 3 of us went to our pool. She was big enough this time to splash around more, and she LOVED it!!

Happy babe

Kaylee's been laughing more and more lately. Apparently me saying "boo" is hilarious, by the way.

She's also taking over the house (of course!!). We took all our living room furniture to the basement and put her pack 'n play and toys in the living room. We never used the room anyway, so it was pretty much wasted space and now we also have some places to sit in the basement, too. Jamie wonders if it's a problem that there are katana swords on the wall of a playroom...?

Here's a more recent photo of my friend's youngest daughter, Erin (12.5 months) and Kaylee (4.5 months) - Kaylee's catching up! I'll be watching Erin at my house on Mondays and Tuesdays - we started this week. Right now the girls are on opposite sleep schedules. I think there are only about 20 minutes at the most that I'll have while they're both sleeping, so I'll be up with one, the other or both all day! Guess I'll get good sleep those nights.

Ear Update

We just got back from the ENT doctor with Kaylee again. Hopefully I can explain this well enough... The tympanometry test they do measures how much sound is reflected back while pressure is swept through the ear canal, and measures the stiffness/compliance of the ear drum. The ENT doc said that Kaylee's ears do look better than at last month's visit, but that she has "stiff ears," essentially meaning that while she can hear, her ear drums are not as responsive as they should be, and she is/will be more susceptible to retaining fluid behind her ear drums if she gets a cold or ear infection. Apparently her left ear is worse, but her right ear does show stiffness as well. We have an appointment to go back in 3 months (early November), but were told to come see him if she does get a cold or ear infection in the meantime. The doc said in most cases the stiffness clears up by age 5, but if she does show a buildup of fluid again soon, he'll probably recommend inserting tubes. So right now we're still playing the waiting game and continuing to pray that things clear up on their own!

Watch out, kitties!

Kaylee has been noticing the cats more and more lately, and I help her pet them sometimes. Today Tigger wandered over by where we were sitting on the floor and Kaylee was petting him by herself! I guess Tigger got tired of us not petting him and figured he's got to get it where he can. :-) Of course he sat there while Kaylee pet (and grabbed) him for quite a while before I got the camera, then tired of it quickly. Oh, well.

More Nate!

Jamie and I visited the new family again last night, and Kaylee got to meet her new cousin, Nathan! If you check back to the post from May 15 - "No news, just cute pics" - you'll see the photo of my friend's daughter Erin (in pic - almost 10 months) next to Kaylee (almost 2 mo). Kaylee looked so small! Now she's 4 months and compared to her 4 day old cousin, she's the giant baby! :-) She didn't really pay too much attention to Nate, but she did look at him for a little bit - she seems to be fascinated by other babies (and still herself in the mirror).

We're going to see them again tomorrow, too. My aunt Lynnie and uncle Sedge arrived late Thursday night (actually EARLY Friday morning, as their flight was delayed due to Atlanta storms), so we saw them yesterday. They sold their house in Massachusetts last fall and temporarily lived in GA for about 6 months over the winter. Lynnie stuck around until Kaylee was about a week old, so got to meet her, but Sedge left town (they now live in Maine) to start construction on their new house, so he hadn't met Kaylee until last night. And my cousin Kim (the new aunt) is in town as of late last night; she also has yet to meet Kaylee, but will tomorrow. Kaylee is excited about meeting the rest of the family this weekend!!
